Uncanny Valley.
My third-year major project focused on the Uncanny Valley, the discomfort you feel when encountering something that looks almost human but isn’t convincing enough. With the rapid technological changes, humanoid robots are likely to become more apparent in the near future. Hence, it seemed important to bring the research conducted on the Uncanny Valley to a wider audience, in this case, through educating children. I focused on key scientists in the field, such as Masahiro Mori, Astrid M. Rosenthal-Von Der Putten and Fabian Grabenhorst, within my research.
The outcome is an interactive piece that takes a character through a literal valley where she encounters signposts at various points revealing the valley’s stages and information about them.
